Life has been pretty busy ever since we had our third child, but now that things have started to calm down, I've been getting back into photography again.

I always remember the day I bought my first DSLR. It's easy to remember because I bought it on Christine's birthday. [It classifies as a gift for her, right?] We went to the Calgary Tower and took all of these great birthday photos that we reviewed on the LCD excitedly.
I also remember that when we got home, I accidentally deleted all of the photos while playing with the settings. It was in that moment of disappointment that I realized I was going to appreciate photography.
From that point on, my camera went pretty much everywhere we did. Soon friends and family wanted me to help capture their memories. It was a huge honour to share in their milestone moments such as engagements, weddings and births.

When we had our first-born Skyler and I started to capture moments and memories of him. I became passionate about photography and even had a mini viral moment with global attention. The opportunities were endless because kids grow and change so quickly and if you don't capture these moments, they're gone in a flash.

When Maddox was born, it became more difficult to find the time and energy for photography but with a ratio of 2:2, I was still able to continue capturing moments for our family but less so for others.

Once Aria came along, we were outnumbered! We experienced a period of time where photography, among other things, had fallen aside. It was a bit tough to tread water and keep my head above the surface with a camera in my hand. The camera still came out for bigger moments, but it was a lot easier day by day to grab a few cellphone snaps with one kid on my back while chasing down the other ones. Photos became more of "snapshots" in the sense of going through the motions without taking things in and enjoying them fully.

With Aria being two and a half now, we're ready to start having more family outings and experiences again. So it's time to dust off the camera.
Life is filled with exciting, interesting and special moments that we want to easily remember. All too often, we forget these moments as they are quickly overshadowed by the multitude of distractions fighting for our time and attention. Photography bottles up moments for future enjoyment. Photos have the ability to refocus our mind's lens and to refresh our memories with all of the small but important details that have made our lives enjoyable and meaningful.

As much as photography has the ability to take something that’s almost forgotten and renew it in our mind, it still only goes so far. Hence the blog! A few words to help the photos along in remembering how the kids are, how they change, and some of the things we learn along the way. Hopefully it'll be nice for us and our kids to look back on in the future.
We want this year to be about family time together and we want to capture it.
I don't expect I'll be able to get back to photography for others right now. I miss sharing in all of those special moments but maybe the blog can help others tell us how they connect as a family and allow us to share all of our family's favourite activities and places to go.
We’re looking forward to where this year will take us.
